So...just got back from my root canal. It was...an experience. I feel fine now, but the numbing hasn't worn off yet, so we'll see how it goes when the delightful non-feeling goes away.
It was a little bit like a Saw-inspired torture session. First, some sort of wedge was crammed into my mouth to keep it open, then a stretchy fabric was stretched over and clamped to face. (To keep the scraped bits of my tooth from falling down my open throat. Charming.) Paste was smeared across my gums, followed by a needle shoved up there. Then, the REAL work began. See, according to my dentist, MY root canal was going to be very difficult, probably the hardest he's ever done, due to the strange curvature of that particular tooth. Way to be different, teeth. Awesome. So that meant a lot of the instruments had to be oddly twisted, thereby jamming themselves awkwardly against the lower, non-numb part of my jaw. All of the this was, of course, lovingly accompanied by the worst sound in the world:
The sound of metal scraping against your teeth. AAAAAAAGGGGGGHHHH!! That is the WORST! Plus the air-spray thinger that sounds disturbingly similar to a small propane torch.
And just when I thought it was almost over, then it was time to seal the root. Which is done with, essentially, a heat gun. Which burned the corner of my lip. Sadness.
But then it was over, and now I am back in dorm, getting ready for my pledge retreat. Excitement!
Also: Thank you Mom, for the Ramen noodles, cereal, and bowls!! I REALLY want to eat some Ramen noodles right now, but I'm afraid that they will dribble very un-classily out of the numb side of my mouth.
Also also: Now, when I smile, my face twists into something resembling a very painful grimace. That's unfortunate.
